NAVER AMCK
TBIS 1:What do you write ?, how long have you been writing for (year started), and why did you get involved in it ?
NAVER: I WRITE NAVE OR NAVER..i remember I was about seven years old. My first exposure to graffiti was when my brothers fosho and swerv used to come home from all night partys.i would always wake up as a little kid and sneak out to see what my brothers were doing in the early morning hours. One time i remember fosho was talking about this guy that was doing graffiti up high on a over pass. He was amazed by this writer painting so high up in the air. So I seen the effect of what people thought about graffiti.so ever since then I wanted to be the guy making people say dam how he do that.swerv was already painting but after I seen fosho explain that story then me and swerv were on a tear..i started scribbling about 94-started actually painting about 1996.
TBIS 2:How did you get your name?
NAVER:fosho used to scribble around and one day I seen him do a 2sic tag on a folder we had around the house so that was my name I kinda stole it from him he was already writing twomp. So I ran with 2sic then I changed it to nice. Then when I moved to east bay I started writing nav1 all around the time I started taking e-pills and and added the letter E to my name…
TBIS 3: Who were your biggest influences and why?
NAVER: My pops is my biggest influence to this graffiti believe it or not. When growing up as a little kid I seen my pops go through it with my two older brothers and all the cases they caught as growing up as a youngster. When I started really getting into graffiti I lived in east bay I remember I had over 14 roof tops running at once on the main street next to my house and I also cut all four sides of the fence to the freeway over pass two house’s away from my house I used to hit the heaven and one night I wrote fuck the five hoe across the top of a heaven.. Next thing you know the sheriff was at my house next day sitting down with my dad at the kitchen table when I walked in they told me to come have a seat. The cop was threating to throw me in California youth authority if they caught me on the freeway.my dad then about two weeks later took me to every graffiti spot he knew in the bay the dream yard the tie ware house and the old school ghost yards. Ever since then my dad was my biggest influence not only in graffiti but in life. He taught me no matter what good or bad always have your kids back…ey catch me on the freeways...i know i wasn't a angel and got arrested many times for graffiti but my pops always seen talent in me and had my back no matter if it was rite or wrong.. so after this sheriff came to the house few months later my pops finally gave in after years of throwing mine and swervs spray paint markers away and so many court dates for fosho swerv and i. he still had it in his heart to want to see us happy.. he took me to some of the best graffiti yards in the bay area a place where they parked old muni busses in sf called the ghost yards and the dream yards in Oakland and the tie warehouse in sf..he is the biggest inspiration to my graffiti and my life he is my only idol because he always had my back rite or wrong and i hope some day i can hear this same thing from my daughter for having her back.... i love you pops and thank for everything and being the best dad a son could ever have..#VENICEBEACH #ROLLO1AMCK #AMCKINGS
TBIS 4: Whats your Favorite type of graffiti?
NAVER:rip to young ceks. Ceks and me used to come with these types of pieces we would call bomber Berners. Three color tops under 15 min no going back and fixing them. No outer out line…
TBIS 5: Do you consider graffiti Hip Hop? and if not where did you pick it up from and what group do you think it falls in?
NAVER: I mean I respect where it came from but honestly I don’t do all the hip hop type of stuff involved with graffiti. When i was brought in to this graffiti stuff it was threw my older brother.it started with gang graffiti I am pretty sure that’s where swerve picked it up.in are old neighborhood there used to be a lot of gang graffiti and my brother swerve used to funk with this gang so we kind of formed are own at some point. So it was more of a way of life then a hip hop movement type of thing for us.
TBIS 6: Whats your favorite type of music?
NAVER :i mean im from the bay so I mostly listen to underground rap I remember when I was about 7 or 8 my brothers gave me a cougnut imp tape and I used to walk around with my mom’s radio on my shoulder and so from then on I was a rap fan mostly. But I honestly believe all music is good for the soul and I can really listen to any type of music. I try to relate my life to them explainig there life their music and try to learn from other experinces in life that they are singing about…
TBIS 7: Whats the difference to you between Graffiti and Gang graffiti to you?
NAVER:Graffiti writers have a different code of ethics compared to gang graffiti.id say that graffiti writers do graffiti to get away from the normal stressors in life. Gang graffiti would be someone trying to expand their turf or a mixture of the new era where instead of graffiti most People be money motivated now a days. So they would form a gang of writers to represent themselves as someone not to cross or go over…
TBIS 8: Fruity pebbles or coco pebbles?
NAVER:Neither I always been a cinnamon toast crunch type of person..
TBIS 9: Are you in your prime as of right now? and if not when do you think your prime was?
NAVER: Honestly I’d say my prime was threw out my high school days. Anything else is just icing on the cake…
TBIS 10: Whats your favorite city that you have painted and why is it your favorite?
NAVER:Denver is as far as I made it so far.id have to say Denver. Because it was all brand new and charges there were still only misdemeanors. I also recently went to la with family and got to paint couple spots but. I can’t wait to go back and get full experience looks like the biggest graffiti playground I have ever seen..
TBIS 11: What do you think of people getting jail time for graffiti ?
NAVER:id say that if you are not smiling when you get took in to jail for graffiti..This game is not for you……………….
TBIS 12: Do you still drink 40’s and if so whats your favorite brand to drink?
NAVER:nah I retired malt liquor when I was in hIgh school we used to drink a lot of 2/11.if I drink anything now a days id say a bottle straight with no chaser…..
TBIS 13: How do you feel about the graffiti trend and as well as being used for everything now a days (clothing, lunch boxes , hats , etc…..)
NAVER:fosho always used to tell me when he was deep in the dope game.. man nave why you do that shit you risking your freedom for nothing…so I always tried to think how could a flip the game and bubble out off what I love to do…also id say if you earned your respect and can teach others about how graffiti helped your life why not teach them and treat yourself at the same time….. id say just make sure you pay it forward if you are going to make money off graffiti…I am also working on my first book called amckings coming soon to shelf near you.
TBIS 14: Do you have a chase story that people would like to hear one that you almost shit your self during?
NAVER: i remember was in about 9th grade I was out in the tenderloin. With two friends and the jump out boys rolled up on us in a blacked out crown vic.it was about two in the morning the cop jumped out like whats up what yall doing we all were caught red handed so he pulled out his gun and while he had us at gun point we all were throwing stuff every which way. I was so tripin I went throw a liquid silver behind me and instead of throwing it behind me it stuck with a circle motion and instead of it going behind me the marker went rite towards the cop and he replied what the fuck was that so now yall throwin shit at me?....he end up letting us go that night.
